Shirley Jean Mills

Shirley Jean Mills, the daughter of William and Dorothea Lane Etherington, was born June 27, 1939 in Algona, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in the Algona area where she graduated from Algona High School. Shirley married Robert Mills January 31, 1979 in Greenville, Iowa. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, and bowling, but her biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She also loved puppies and was happy to take stray dogs into her home. Shirley was also a member of the Eagle's. Shirley passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley, Iowa, at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson Jonathan Nixon, and special friend Ella Peterson. Left to cherish her memory is her husband Robert of Hartley, Iowa; 7 children, Dorothea (Richard) Eldridge of Nashua, New Hampshire, Shyla Colburn of Des Moines, Iowa, John (Carmie) Miller of Dickens, Iowa, Leala (David) Cain Greenbrier, Arkansas, Rebecca (Mark) Nixon of Spencer, Iowa, Monica Healy of Eldon, Missouri, and Shelly (Jim) Lorenzen of Spencer, Iowa; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, with 2 more on the way; 3 sisters, Karen Etherington of Spencer, Iowa, Patricia Prom of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Lucille Luchsinger of Wautoma, Wisconsin; other relatives and many friends.
