Shirley Joann Morrow

Castle Rock

     Shirley JoAnn Morrow, the daughter of Harlan M. and Verna E. (Nelson) Syndergaard, was born on September 23, 1931 in Cedar Falls, IA. She lived on a farm southeast of Royal, IA and attended country school through the 8th grade. She spent her first year of high school in Rossie, IA, and graduated from Royal High School in 1949.

     On October 11, 1949, Shirley married Virgil James Morrow at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal, IA. They moved to Everly in November 1949, where they owned and operated the Morrow Hardware Store in partnership with his brother, Leo and his wife, Lola for several years. Shirley worked part-time at the Post Office for 30 years and lived in Everly until November of 2011, when she moved to Lakewood, CO to be near family. While living in Everly, she belonged to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Rosary Society. She was an original member of the Everly Kitchen Band and had many fun years performing with them and they later became a Red Hat group. She enjoyed being a homemaker, spending time with family and friends, shopping, playing bridge, traveling, flower arranging and decorating.

     Shirley passed away on September 30, 2019, at the Assured Assisted Living in Castle Rock, CO, at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil in 2003 and her stepmother, Verneil Syndergaard.

     Left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Cindy Kaus and her husband, Paul of Lake St. Louis, MO and Becky Adams of Castle Rock, CO; her grandchildren: Jason Kaus and wife, Carrie of Wentzville, MO, Jennifer Owens and husband, Robb of Colorado Springs, CO, Season Cowdrey and husband, Brian of Castle Rock, CO and Grant Mugge and wife, Cayla of Castle Rock, CO; great grandchildren: Jager and Ryker Owens, Tristan and Danica Kaus, Ashton, Ayla, Micah and Abby Cowdrey and Rinnah and Everly Mugge; brother-in-law, Fred Schmidt of Spencer, IA; half-sister, Claudia Stricker and husband, Dan of Royal, IA; stepbrother, Robert Austin and wife, Carol; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

SERVICES
Graveside Services will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 11, 2019, at Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.

Following the graveside service, there will be a gathering at the Warner Funeral Home in Everly.
