Shirley Lorraine Crabtree, the daughter of Fred and Grace Patricia (Eldridge) Nicholi, was born September 27, 1924 in Aurora, IL. Her childhood years were spent in Cedar Rapids, where she received her education attending Roosevelt High School.
Shirley married Jack Crabtree on August 4, 1946 in Mason City, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Mason City and Clear Lake, before moving to Spencer, Iowa. She worked at a veneer plant for 3 years, before going to work as a cook at Longhouse Residence for 15 years, until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Spencer. Shirley was an assistant Girl Scout leader. She rode her bike until she was in her 70's, loved to draw, sew, play cards, go shopping for towels, and most importantly loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Nancy Ann Tenney and one brother, Richard (Dick) Cole.
She was survived by her husband, Jack Crabtree of Spencer; her children: James Crabtree and his wife, Joyce of Humboldt, IA; Jerry Crabtree and his wife, Suzanne of Spencer, Judy Carpenter and her husband, Dennis of Lampe, MO and Jane Youde of Hiawatha, KS; 22 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Cole of Deer Park, TX; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
