Spencer

Shirley Mae Peters, the daughter of Arthur and Loena (Powell) Pfitzenmaier, was born on June 8, 1930, at Primghar, Iowa.  Her childhood years were spent on a farm between Primghar and Hartley.  She received her early education at a country school and graduated from Hartley High School in 1949.

Shirley married Wayne Peters on July 30, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Hartley.  To this union two children were born, a son Allen and a daughter Carol.  Following their marriage, Shirley and Wayne farmed for many years northeast of Everly.  Shirley enjoyed working at Molly Bea’s and Picadilly Circus and also worked several years at the Clay County Fair.  She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church in Everly, where she served on several church committees and also taught Sunday School and Bible School.  After retiring from farming in 1996, Shirley and Wayne moved to Spencer.

Shirley passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home on September 1, 2022.  She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents and 3 sisters Jean Knight, June Hubbard and Bonnie Schoelerman.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Allen Peters of Spencer, Iowa; her daughter Carol (John) Schwarck of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren Steven (Donica) Schwarck, Kristin (Andy) Cly, Brittany (Michael) Perkins and five great grandchildren all of Columbus, Ohio; other relatives and many friends.
