Shirley Mae Steuben was born November 1, 1929, in Everly, IA. She was raised there by her mother, Kathryn (Schoelerman) Schoenewe and graduated from Everly High School in 1947. After her schooling, she worked for a time as a waitress.
Shirley married Gene Steuben on June 6, 1948, in Everly, IA. They lived in Everly for four years, before moving to the farm west of Milford in 1952, where they made their home throughout their married life. Her entire life was devoted to raising her family. Shirley thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, watching and listening to the birds sing. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Everly.
Shirley passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA, on May 16, 2012, at the age of 82. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother; her husband, Gene and son, Scott in 2000; great-grandson, Emmanuel Steuben in 2003; daughter, Nancy Gralapp in 2006; one brother, Robert Schoenewe; and two sisters: Lois Selzer and Joyce Pullen.
Left to cherish her memory are a son, Rick and wife, Jennifer of Everly, IA; 5 grandchildren: Amanda (Mark) Sill of Madelia, MN, Gena (Mike) Sternberg of Littleton, CO, Stephanie (Tim) Power of Iowa City, IA, Ryan (Lynnea) Steuben of Erie, PA and Cody Gralapp of Stockton, CA; 7 great- grandchildren; one sister, Joann (Lonnie) Wede of Spencer, IA; one brother, Russ (Sylvia) Schoenewe of Broken Arrow, OK; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Hope Lutheran Church in Everly.
