Shirley Maxine Barnard, the daughter of Edwin and Hazel (Brown) Larson was born October 31, 1928 in Algona, IA. Her childhood years were spent in the Ayrshire, IA area, where she attended school, graduating from Silver Lake High School in Ayrshire.
After high school Shirley worked as a nurse aide at Spencer Hospital, where she met the love of her life Dwight "Dick" Barnard. Dick and Shirley were married on November 20, 1949 in Ayrshire. They moved to the family farm near Gillett Grove, IA. Shirley enjoyed being a farm wife, raising her children and helping Dick on the farm. They moved to Webb in 1973 where she worked for the Hot Lunch Program for South Clay Schools for 22 years until retiring in Spencer, in 1996.
Shirley enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting, and watching Hawkeye sports, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was a member of Red Hat Society and Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
Shirley passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Spencer Hospital at the age of 85. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Denise; and a great-granddaughter, Avery Engkjer.
Left to cherish her memory are her 4 children, Sue (Gene) Feauto of Kerville, TX, Connie (Marty) Koch of Spencer, IA, Pam Hansen and Rich (Wendy) Barnard of Fountain Hills, AZ; 7 grandchildren, Sam, Nate, Jake, Maggie, Andy, Sarah, and Allison; 5 great-grandchildren, Hayden, Nolan, Max, Logan, and Mia; 3 brothers, Dean Larson of Selma, AL, Gus Larson of Lake Crystal, MN and Carl Larson of Prior Lake, MN; 4 sisters, Phyllis Davis of Sac City, IA, Hazel Anderson of Montrose, CO, Sharon Crabb of Sac City, IA, and Ginger Harman of Kingsley, IA; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services will take place 10:30 A.M., Saturday, August 23, at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.
