Shirley Kay Nuzum, the daughter of Ralph and Edith (Simmons) Johnson, was born on April 5, 1939 in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent here where she also attended school. Following high school, Shirley married Burdette Ahrens. To this union one son, Ken was born.
On January 10, 1966, Shirley married Leo Nuzum in Dakota City, NE. Throughout their marriage, they made their home in the Spencer community. Shirley's brother Duke also lived with them for the last 35 years.
Shirley loved to spend time with her son, grandchildren and her family. She liked talking to people on the phone, playing bingo, roller-skating, her dogs, curly and brownie and driving around in her car.
Shirley passed away on March 22, 2009, at the Longhouse Residence in Spencer, at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; her son, Ken; three brothers: John, Louie and Ralph and one nephew, Ronnie Wayne.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Duke Johnson of Spencer, IA; granddaughters: Krystal Ahrens of Fostoria, IA and Keri Gross and her husband, Jarad of Spencer, IA; her daughter-in-law, Patty Ahrens of Spencer, IA; a very good friend, Jim Johnson of Spencer, IA; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
A lunch will be served at the VFW Hall in Spencer immediately following the services. Graveside services will be held at Greenvwood Cemetery in Bancroft, Iowa at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday.
