Stan was born on July 22, 1924 to John F. and Alice B. Schoelerman at their farm home south of Everly. Stan attended school in Everly and graduated from high school in1942. He married Muriel Wynette White on September 30th, 1945. The couple lived and worked on the Everly family farm until 1964. Stan was active in American National Cattlemen's Association, Farm Bureau, and was Clay County Soil Commissioner chairman for two years. Stan was named Outstanding Young Farmer in the state of Iowa in 1959.
In 1964, Stan left the farm, moved to Spencer and joined Petersen Sheep and Cattle Company. Two years later he bought the company with business partners Russ Heine and John Miller. In 1974, Governor Robert Ray appointed Stan to the Iowa Transportation Commission, followed by another appointment to the National Motor Carriers Committee in 1980.
Stan was a dedicated Mason, belonging to several orders for over 50 years. He was active in York Rite, Sioux City Consistory and Abu Bekr Shrine. He was an active Kiwanian for over 40
years and an involved member of the First Congregational Church. He was a founding trustee of the Spencer Community Theatre and served for 20 years on the Board of Trustees. Stan was a proud member of the Spencer community and enjoyed supporting the town in many ways. He was named citizen of the year in 1971. Stan will be remembered for his relentless fundraising. He never hesitated to ask for money for a good cause in the community.
Stan is survived by his three children: Deb Schoelerman (Paul Pomrehn) of Iowa City, Tom of Des Moines, and Lisa Schoelerman of Stillwater, MN. Stan was grandfather to Andrea (Ward) Myers of Boston, MA; Teri (John) Birch of Ft Defiance, AZ, Greg (Charissa) Pomrehn of Pasadena, CA; and Katie Pud Reich (Isaac) of Pensacola, FL. and three great grand children, Clara, Noah, and Lewis, sisters-in law: Patricia (Ivan) Hossack of Spencer, Marilyn (Robert) White of Petersen, Martha (Herbert) Hoover of Marion, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Muriel (Pud), his parents and his brother Rodney, brothers-in-law Ivan Hossack, L.A. White, Robert White, and sister-in-law Betty White.

Services will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the First Congregational Church in Spencer.

VISITATION
Will be held at the First Congregational Church in Spencer beginning Wednesday, at 5:00pm with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00pm. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00pm by the Evening Shade Lodge #312 A.F. & A.M. of Spencer.
