Stanley William Lanning, the son of William and Mildred (Cran) Lanning, was born December 14, 1915 in Pioneer, IA. His childhood years were spent in Bradgate, Iowa, where he received his early education in country schools.
Stan married Eileen Davis on May 1, 1942. Stan entered the military in November 1942 and served with the U.S. Army during WWII until his honorable discharge in February of 1946. After his discharge, Stan started with Corn Belt Power in Pocahontas, IA and was transferred to Yetter, IA for seven years and then to Dakota City, IA for 7 years and then to the Spencer Wisdom Station for 20 years, until his retirement on December 31, 1981. He was a member of the American Legion. In his early years, he enjoyed repairing some of the first television sets. In his leisure time, he enjoyed woodworking, traveling on bus trips, fishing and attending his grandchildren's activities.
Stan passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at the age of 94. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Eugene and Russell Lanning.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Eileen of Spencer; two sons: Ronald Lanning and his wife, Sherry of Humboldt, IA, Donald Lanning and his wife, Jan of Spring Valley, MN; one daughter, Pamela Reynolds and her husband, Mark of Swea City, IA; his grandchildren: Todd, Kari, Kim, Kari, Tim, Molly, Ben and Cole; 8 great grandchildren: Mesa, Kendall, Treyton, Maddax, Hadlee, Adalyn, Ashlee and Kaylee; three brothers: Gordon, Richard and Perry Lanning; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa.
