Stephen Michael Spory

Stephen Michael Spory, the son of Daren and Lisa (Jenkins) Baxter, was born September 16, 1983 in Spencer, Iowa. He grew up in Spencer, where he was loved by his parents, sister, grandparents, his many cousins, aunts and uncles and friends. He was a kid who truly loved Christmas and never outgrew it. He was always the 1st one up on Christmas morning and enjoyed being with family during the holidays. Upon graduating from Spencer High School, Steve attended college at Kirkwood in Cedar Rapids. He couldn't wait to get out of the small town of Spencer and strike out on his own. After a year there, and a year of employment in Ames, he transferred to DMACC in Ankeny and spent two years studying business there before moving to Iowa City, where he was employed by Geico Insurance. Steve was a 'Michigan' man in Hawkeye country and he loved that. Steve enjoyed spending time in the summer at Lake Okoboji and in the winter, he loved snowboarding. His music of choice was the Dave Mathews Band, but his greatest passion, which he shared with his family, was Michigan Wolverine sports. Steve passed away at his home in Iowa City, IA on Saturday, December 8, 2012 following a brief illness at the age of 29. His maternal grandfather, Bud Jenkins and his paternal grandfather, Harvey Baxter, Sr, preceded him in death. Left to cherish his memory are his parents: Daren and Lisa Baxter of Spencer; his sister, Megan, a student at Simpson College in Indianola, IA; his maternal grandmother, Deb Jenkins of Spencer; his paternal grandmother, Esther Baxter of Langdon; many aunts, uncles and cousins and many, many friends.
