The brother of Becky Campbell of Spencer.
Steven Lee Lutes, the son of Arthur 'Bill' and Margaret 'Rusty' (Cobbs) Lutes, was born June 29, 1949 in Decatur, Illinois. His childhood years were spent in several communities, graduating from Spirit Lake Community School.
Steve married Rhonda Geerdes and to this union two daughters were born, Stephanie and Pepper. He lived in the Lakes Region and worked for McQuay's in Spirit Lake for a number of years. Steve later moved to Florida where he worked at his grandfather's service station. He moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he was part owner of Lute's Photography Studios. He married his
2nd wife, Ginny in 1974 and to this union one son, Christopher was born in 1976.
In 1977, Steven moved to Fremont, NE, where he became a police officer. He later moved to Guymon, OK, where he was a drug officer, K-9 unit trainer and participated in the investigations of the Oklahoma City bombing. Steve moved to Clovis, NM, where he was a member of their police force until his retirement. After his retirement, he moved to Emmetsburg and worked part time for the Sioux City Patrol as a armed security officer in 2004. Steve received several awards and citations for his work in law enforcement and with the K-9 unit.
Steve loved to fish and play the guitar in his free time. He also was inducted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 for his band the 'Dentares' and in 2011 for his band 'Sticks & Stones'. His sister, Vicki Lynn Lutes was inducted into the Rock-N-Roll Hall of fame in 2008.
He passed away at his sister, Rebecca's home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the age of 65. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Victoria Lynn 'Ricci Stevens' Lutes in 2008.
Steve is survived by one sister, Rebecca (Jack) Campbell of Spencer; his children; several nieces and nephews and his friends all over the United States.
