Steven Charles Painter, the son of Jack and Ligea (McCracken) Painter, was born on May 1, 1945, in Denver, CO where he received his early education.  He then attended college at the University of California in Santa Barbara, CA from 1963 to 1967.  Following his schooling, Steve joined the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War where he worked his way to Officer on a gun boat squadron on the Mekong River and received a Bronze Star.  After his Honorable Discharge, he worked for IBM as an ATM repair man in Santa Barbara, CA.

     Steve joined several Monasteries in California and Oregon where his love for the Lord grew very deep.

     In 2007, Steve married the love of his life, Carla (Corcoran) McCormick.  Following their marriage, they made their home in Spencer, IA.  He worked as a ticket manager at the Clay County Fair and Iowa Lakes Regional Water in the office where he retired in 2023.  He was a very generous man and lived a Catholic life and enjoyed speaking several languages including Hebrew.  He was a tutor for math, algebra, geometry and calculus.  Steve was known for being quick witted with a dry sense of humor.   In his spare time, he enjoyed surfing in his younger years and would love going to the ocean, playing the guitar, reading, studied the Bible and especially loved his dogs and spending time with his family.

     Steve passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on May 25, 2024 at the age of 79.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Ligea Painter and two brothers: Jeff and Doug.

     He is survived by his wife, Carla of Spencer; two step-sons: Joseph (Hope) McCormick of Emmetsburg, IA and Justin (Paige) McCormick of New Prague, MN; grandchildren: Devan and Trinity Garman-McCormick and Adeline and Cooper McCormick; brother-in-law’s: Dennis Corcoran, Doug Corcoran, Les Zobrist and sister-in-law, Sheila Zobrist all of Spencer, IA; cousin, Ligea Adsit of Oklahoma; other relatives and friends.
