Steven Ward Huckfelt, the son of Donald and Luella Crawford Huckfelt, was born October 27, 1950 in Canton, SD. He was baptized at the Canton Lutheran Church in 1951. Steven moved with his family to Vermillion, S.D. and then to Spencer, Iowa in 1963. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1968 and he was confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer. Following his graduation, he moved to Omaha, NE and later to Denver, Colorado, where he was involved in the concrete business, where he became well known for his expert work, while residing in Commerce City, Colorado. He later established his own business called Steve's Concrete out of Lochbuie, CO.
In 2007, he suffered medical problems, and was no longer able to do the work he loved and took so much pride in.
All the while in Colorado Steven (nicknamed "Gunk" which followed him from his high school days in Spencer), was very active in fishing and hunting in the mountains and lakes of Colorado. Two years in a row he won fishing tournaments by catching the largest pike in Colorado, which he had mounted and displayed on the walls of his home. Other "trophies" were deer, moose heads, Bullwinkle and Cowinkle, and the greatest of all, a mountain lion. He loved the outdoors, and was very proud of the variety of beautiful flowers and trees which made a beautiful front yard on his acreage.
Steven was a dear, loving son, and brother, especially proud of his nephews and niece. The struggle he has endured this last year put a damper on the activities he loved, but he made a brave fight to continue life as best he could.
His death was sudden at his home in Lochbuie, the morning of December 17. We, his family, loved him so much, and will continue to love his memory, and look forward to being together with him in Heaven. Steven was preceded in death by his grandparents and the love of his life, Pat.
Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Donald and Luella Huckfelt of Spencer; three brothers: Jeffrey and his wife, Jackie Huckfelt of Spencer, Randal and his wife, Peggy Huckfelt of Spencer and Regan and his wife, Tammy of Marion, IA; one sister, Cynthia and her husband, Mark Hinton of Spencer, IA; nine nephews and one niece, Elizabeth Huckfelt; other relatives and many friends. May he rest in peace knowing he was loved by all he touched during his life.
