Thomas C. Rahbusch, Sr.

Thomas Carl Rahbusch, Sr., the son of Wilhelm and Catherine (Hansen) Rahbusch, was born on April 3, 1939, in O'Brien County, Iowa. He was baptized at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland on June 22, 1947. He received his early education by attending Grant country school and then Sutherland high school. After high school, Thomas worked for several area farmers. On August 1, 1959, Thomas married Connie Davis in Sibley, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived north of Sutherland where he worked for the Kaiser's helping on their farm. In 1964, the couple moved to Cherokee, where Thomas worked for Lundell Manufacturing. In 1972, they moved back to Sutherland where he helped his dad and brothers farm until 2003, when he went to work for the Fuhrman Family Farms. Thomas enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting with his son, Mark, but most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren, and at times would dance with them in the kitchen. Thomas passed away on May 3, 2010, at his home in Sutherland at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jann Rahbusch; daughter-in-law, Leanne Marie Rahbusch; granddaughter, Rebecca Leigh Rahbusch; 2 brothers: John and William Jr.; two sisters: Ella Alberts and Magdelena Catherine in infancy. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Connie of Sutherland, IA; two sons: Thomas Jr. of Sutherland, IA and Mark and his wife, Tina of Des Moines, IA; 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Hershberger and Justine Mowrer and their families, Mark Jr., Geoffrey, Johanna, Chelsi and Riley; 3 great grandchildren; two brothers: Herman and his wife, Glenda and Harry and his wife, Gloria both of Sutherland, IA; five sisters: Christine Mathern and Marianne Lenhart both of Sutherland, IA, Marga Wede of Cherokee, IA, Betty Reinfeld and Ruth Durant both of California; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
