Thomas “Fred” Frederick Pote, the son of Milburn and Amy (Smith) Pote was born in Los Angeles, CA on November 17, 1943. His childhood years were spent in the Ralstan, NE area, where he attended school and graduated from Ralstan High School.
Fred enlisted in the U.S. Marines before being medically discharged. He then worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 36 years, before retiring at the age of 60. Fred married Sandra Grussing on February 14, 2001 in Omaha, NE.
Fred enjoyed golfing, reading, crossword puzzles, watching jeopardy and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was a San Diego Chargers fan and Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Fred was also a Sunday School Teacher, read books on tape for blind people and was a Lay Minister at church.
Fred passed away on Friday, August 7, 2020 at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, IA, at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sandra of Spencer, IA; one daughter, Erika (Terry) McCawle of Ralston, NE; 2 grandchildren, Jason and Larissa; 2 great-grandchildren, Andrew and Jessica; 2 stepdaughters, Michele Ganzert of Virginia and Tarrel Habben of Spencer, IA; one brother Wayne Pote of Omaha, NE; 2 half-sisters, Tammy Pote and Amy of Midwest City, OK; other relatives; and many friends.
