Thomas J. Griffin, the son of Thomas W. and Arlene (VandeMark) Griffin, was born May 5, 1954 in Spencer, Iowa. Following his schooling, he married Linda Anderson and to this union, two children were born, Thomas, Jr. and Nicole.

He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasant, attending his children's sporting events. Tom also enjoyed traveling on his motorcycle to Sturgis and the west coast as well as car racing.
