Thomas Leon Clarken

Thomas Clarken, the son of Delamar Leroy and Evelyn Lucille (Brown) Clarken, was born on March 20, 1945 in Estherville, Iowa. He started School in Lakefield, MN and moved to Webb in 1954, where he graduated from South Clay in 1964. After graduation, He moved to Fort Dodge where he worked in construction and raced cars. He moved back to the Gillett Grove area and married Kathy Reil on September 24, 1966 in Spencer. He worked a variety of jobs over the years from Cargill and Spencer Foods to B.S.I. and Rohlin's and H&S Roofing as well as helping his parents on the farm. He enjoyed puttering in his garden, hunting, fishing, NASCAR and helping friends and neighbors during harvest. He also enjoyed opening the bar for coffee and visiting with his friends. Thomas passed away on October 20, 2013, at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 68. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Beth Smith (Chad) of Webb, IA; his son, Tom Clarken, Jr. (Codi) of Ruthven, IA; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his sister, Diane Kroese (Richard) of Spirit Lake, IA; sister-in-law, Kathy Clarken of Salt Lake City, UT; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
