Thomas (Tom) Dean Mickelson, the son of Leslie and Evelyn Mickelson, was born April 3, 1938 in LeMars, Iowa. He received his early education at Leeds Elementary and Leeds High School in Sioux City, Iowa. Following his schooling, Tom enlisted and served the United States Navy.
On July 14, 1962, Tom married Margaret "Babe" Britton in Sioux City, Iowa. They lived in South Sioux City, NE and Sioux City where Tom was a diesel mechanic. Tom loved to go to auctions. Became interested in antiques. In 1992, he moved to Spencer where he opened an antique/hobby shop. He loved to do train shows. In 1996, he opened an antique/hobby shop in Storm Lake, IA. He also repaired vacuums there.
Tom had two gardens in his backyard every summer and enjoyed those and his flowers. Playing card with his family was always a must for Tom. He was a great cook and has 50 to 60 cookbooks. Tom and his sons and Randy took a guys out of state vacation every year.
Tom passed away on January 30, 2012 at his home with his family by his side at the age of 73. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Tom is survived by his wife, Margaret of Spencer; his two sons and their wives: Thomas and Gina Mickelson of Katy, TX and Donald and Jane Mickelson of Cottage Grove, MN; his daughter Margaret "Missy" Abraham and life partner Randy Guthmiller of Sioux City, IA; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Robert (Sheri) Mickelson of Norfolk, NE and Richard Mickelson of Buckeye, AZ; sister, Marian (Don) Patrick of Ottertail, MN; other relatives and friends.

Memorial Services will be held from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the Clay County Events Center 800 W. 18th Street, Spencer, Iowa.
