Thomas Peter Hinrichsen III-dedicated father of four, friend of many, and life long Iowa State fan, passed away on November 19, 2022 at the age of 66 in Spencer, Iowa.
Tom was born to Thomas and Bernice (Mittman) Hinrichsen in Muscatine, Iowa on January 16, 1956. He was the youngest of 4 children, having 3 older sisters to spoil him. He graduated from Muscatine High School and then attended Muscatine Community College. He advanced his education by attending Iowa State University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial (Business) Administration. He studied for his CPA exam and after passing with flying colors, started his career at Cain Ellsworth and Co. in Sheldon, Iowa. Later in his career he took a different path and he became a Controller for both a small business and a public company. Realizing he missed the life of a CPA, he settled in Spencer, Iowa and has worked as a Senior Accountant with Winther Stave for the last 30 years.
In 1988, he met and married Yvonne Fougner and started a family. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children. The household was a busy, noisy one, but lots of love and laughter was had. We listened to many stories of his time growing up in a river town, from some of his jobs at the steel mill, the taxi stand and HyVee and to some of the just darn stupid stuff that happens to a Hinrichsen and we will continue to share and laugh about them. The best times were had with the kids at Jack Trice Stadium and the ever-loved Cyclone football. Snow nor rain nor 1 small tornado could keep this Cyclone fan home. Memories to cherish. His hobbies included golfing with his friends at Meadowbrook in Hartley, bowling with the Cindy’s Steakhouse crew on Thursday nights, and the SCT Theater, performing on stage for a couple of productions. He also liked to experiment with cooking and thoroughly enjoyed a good meal shared with family.
Those left to cherish his memory and pass on his stories are his children, Jake, Ames, IA; Josh, (Jasmine), Naperville, IL; Megan (Hank), Atlanta, GA; and Abbie, Spencer, IA. His sisters Carol (Dave) Lawson, LeClair, IA; Joyce Myers, Iowa City, IA; Kathy (Al) Rebal, Iowa City, IA. His Aunt Sharon (Carl) Klein, Spirit Lake, IA; Aunt Gladys Mittman, Muscatine, IA. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins. And many, many friends too numerous to count!
