Velma Anna Dau

Velma Anna Dau, daughter of Walter & Clara (Hoppe) Ebel was born February 2, 1922, near Iona, MN. Her childhood days were spent partly in this area and later moving with her parents to a farm near Granville, IA, in 1934. Her schooling was in country schools in Murray County, MN and O'Brien County, IA. On February 2, 1941, she was united in marriage to Harold H. Dau in her parents home. Following their marriage, they made their home on a farm east of Paullina. They purchased a farm north of Sutherland in 1956 and have lived and retired on this farm. Velma was baptized on February 19, 1922, at the Lutheran Church in Iona, MN and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown on April 14, 1935. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild and a Sunday school teacher and enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible school. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, enjoyed making quilts, Braille, and delivering Meals on Wheels. Velma passed away at the Primghar Care Center on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the age of 87. She was preceded in death by her parents & parents-in-law; two sisters and their husband's: Helen & LeRoy Holck, Bernice & Vern Stamer; two brothers: Roy Ebel & Harry Ebel; her in-laws: Laura & Harry Rohlfsen, Delbert & Vera Dau, Lois & Leonard Breitbarth. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harold of Primghar; their children: Darwin & Bev Dau of Paullina, IA, Jan (Dau) Turner and Londa & Dennis Dahnke all of Colfax, WI; 7 grandchildren: Chad & Becky Dau and Cory & Anita Dau , all of Paullina, IA, Shannon & Gordon Grau of Newell, IA, JoDee & Eric Mittlestadt of Menomonie, WI, Cara & John Christenson of Rye, CO, Darielle Dahnke of Riverfalls, WI and Dallin Dahnke of Colfax, WI; 7 great-grandchildren: Evan, Hannah & Logan Dau; Carli, Lindsay & Kyle Grau; Adyson Mittlestadt; 2 sisters: Clara & Delmar Sickelka of Sutherland, IA, and Lillian & Grant Lage of Audubon, MN; and 1 brother, Don & Jan Ebel of Sutherland, IA; sisters-in-law: Shirley Ebel and Margaret Ebel of Paullina, IA; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Raymond & Marilyn Dau and Florence & Dalton Rehder all of Paullina, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M.,Sunday, October 25, 2009 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland.
