Velma Jean Pullen

Velma Jean Pullen, the daughter of Lawrence and Hattie McCoy Warren, was born January 22, 1925 in Spencer, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Spencer, where she received her early education in country schools and later graduated from Spencer High School. Velma married Bruce Pullen on June 23, 1946 in Spencer. Following their marriage, they lived southeast of Spencer on her husband's family farm. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer. Velma also enjoyed bird watching, gardening and raising her flowers. She was also a long time member of her neighborhood Victory Club and enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's school and club activities, especially the 4-H programs at the Clay County Fair. She had been a resident of St. Luke Lutheran Home since 2001. Mrs. Pullen passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at the age of 81. Her parents; her husband, Bruce in 1990 and her son, Ronald in 1998, preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Barbara and Lyle Flatness of Maquoketa, Iowa; one son, Steven of Sheldon, IA; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Pullen-Lehman of Spencer, Iowa; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
