Ver Nelda Bumann

Ver Nelda “Nell” Bumann of Sun Lakes, Arizona, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at her Renaissance home in Sun Lakes. 

Ver Nelda “Nell” Bumann, daughter of Louis and Vena Grapenthin Amendt was born on March 12, 1927 on the family farm south of Peterson, Iowa.  She graduated from Brooke Consolidated School in 1945. 

She married Orren Bumann of Alta in 1945, and they farmed south of Peterson for 38 years.  To this union, two daughters, Corine and Diane were born.  They were members of the First Congregational Church of Peterson.  Nell was active in the church serving as Secretary of Women’s Felllowship, Member of Circle IV and she taught Sunday School to three year old children.

In 1958 Nell went to work for World Book Educational Products becoming a Manager due to her diligence and hard work.  Her clients were parents, schools, libraries and colleges.  She received countless awards and accolades over a span of 35 years.

Nell and Orren spent many years at their West Okoboji home boating, fishing, skiing and entertaining friends.  A grandson, Sotoa Litaea, was born in 1977 to their daughter Corine.  Sotoa became a big part of Orren and Nell’s life in his younger years.  Many fond memories of the Lake remain today for the family.

After Orren’s passing in 1989, Nell moved to Mount Dora, Florida, in 1995 to be near her sister, Viva Lu Putz. Nell helped organize a Women’s Club, an Investment Club, showed model homes to prospective buyers, played bridge and was a member and volunteer at the Elks in Eustis.

In 2003 Nell moved to Las Vegas for 5 years and then to Sun Lakes to be near her daughters. It was there that she slowed the pace and faced health issues eventually passing from Cancer after a long and difficult journey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orren, her parents, Louis and Vena Amendt, and many other family and friends.  Her daughters, Corine in Chandler and Diane in Gilbert, Arizona and sister, Viva Lu Putz in Leesburg, Florida, mourn her death along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
