Vera Irene Janssen, the daughter of Fred and Anna (Rierson) Baedke, was born May 13, 1925 in Terril, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in Terril, where she received her education.
Vera married Leo Henry Janssen on January 17, 1945 in Terril, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in rural Estherville and Wallingford and later Ayrshire, before moving to Spencer in 1986. The early years of her life, were spent as a homemaker, raising her children. She later worked for most of her life as a fashion consultant for Siefert's and later at Kari's, where she was employed for over 20 years. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Vera was a fantastic cook and enjoyed gardening. She had great style and was a very loving mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Janssen passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in November of 1985; three sons: Eldon, Harvey and Jeff Janssen; two brothers: Arnold and Lyle Baedke and a granddaughter, Abby Beddow.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Dixie (Gordon) Haney of Laguna Beach, CA, Ervin (Heidi) Janssen of Orlando, FL, Ivan (Janet) Janssen of Farmington, MN, Jody Janssen of Pine, AZ and Lisa (Dan) Beddow of Spencer, IA; two brothers: Ernest (Marilyn) Baedke of Terril, IA and Harvey Baedke of Terril, IA; 12 grandchildren; 8 great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, May 23, 2011 at the First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
