Vera Lillie Rose Saxby, the daughter of Melvin and Rose (Piehl) Saxby, was born March 31, 1919 in Arlington, SD. Her childhood years were spent in Arlington, SD, where she received her early education. Her family later moved to Peterson, Iowa, where she continued her education, graduating from Peterson High School in 1937.
After her schooling, she began working in Peterson for ATT at the switchboard and later in the billing and repair department. During her career with ATT, which spanned 44 years, she lived in Peterson for most of the time except for a few years when she resided in Cherokee, IA. She later moved to Spencer and worked at the South T Motel and later at the Tangney Hotel as a desk clerk until her retirement. Vera enjoyed traveling and volunteering throughout the years and was a member of the BPW. She was also a member of First English Lutheran Church in Spencer. Vera enjoyed following her family's sporting activities in her younger years and recently enjoyed watching her Chicago Bulls on TV.
Vera passed away at Longhouse Residence in Spencer, Iowa on Monday, March 17, 2014 at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Ida Krumm, Alnora Saxby and Velma Robinson and two brothers: Steve and Raymond Saxby.
Left to cherish her memory are one brother, Orville Saxby of Cherokee, IA; several nieces and nephews including three nieces: Sandy Zinn of Albuquerque, NM, Judy Christensen of Estherville, IA and Susan Depew of Tucson, AZ; two nephews: Fred Krumm of Beaufort, SC and Bill Krumm of Tucson, AZ; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, March 21 at First English Lutheran Church in Spencer.
