Verda Irene Litka

Verda Irene Skow, the daughter of Jens R. and Emma (Jensen) Skow, was born April 23, 1917, in Graettinger, Iowa and went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2008 at the age of 91 years. She was received into God's Kingdom of grace by Holy Baptism as an infant and confirmed later in the Lutheran church. Verda received her education in country schools near Graettinger and Graettinger High School. She graduated from the Highst Beauty Academy and worked as a beautician in Estherville, Iowa, until she married. She married Arnold John Litka of Sutherland, Iowa on August 21, 1949 and then moved to Sutherland with Arnold to begin their life together farming. She and Arnold raised 3 children, Mark, Deeann, and Dennis. Later during the high school years of her children she started and ran the Royal Beauty Shop in Royal, Iowa for many years. There she enjoyed the company, the conversation, and sharing her faith with her customers. Verda always loved visiting with people. She also was faithful member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Arnold of Sutherland; her three children, Mark and his wife Brenda of Dubuque, Iowa; Deeann and her husband Denis Goeser of Omaha, Nebraska; Dennis and his wife, Sharon of Sutherland; five grandchildren, Matt Goeser, Nick Goeser, Amanda Litka, Austin Litka, and Nate Litka;. And two sister-in-laws, Clara Martin and Leona Plautz. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara; her brother Lawrence Skow; her sister Evangeline Skow; her sister Alice Jessen; and her mother and father.
