Verdis Dean Koehlmoos

October 4, 1936 — April 8, 2025

Spencer

Verdis Dean Koehlmoos was born October 4, 1936, to Fred and Gertrude (Meyer) Koehlmoos in rural Germantown, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Germantown. He attended St. Johns parochial school through the eighth grade and went to high school in Paullina.

Verdis enlisted in the United States Army February 14, 1956. He was overseas in Leipheim, Germany with the Co. “B” 41st Tank BN 8th Infantry Division from September 1956 to February 1958. He finished his service as a reservist with Battery A 14th Arty. in Cherokee, IA. He was extremely proud of his time in the service and talked about it often. He kept in touch with many of his Army buddies.

On January 3, 1959, Verdis married Carol Krahling at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hartley. To this union, two daughters were born, Jodie and Marci.

In 1973, Verdis accepted a position with USDA as a meat inspector. Promotions offered them an opportunity to move to several places in Iowa and Minnesota. Verdis retired from the USDA and ultimately returning to Spencer in 2000. After his retirement, he stayed busy working his summers at Spencer Municipal Utilities.

Verdis and Carol enjoyed 14 years being “snowbirds” in Weslaco, Texas.

In his spare time, he enjoyed staying busy cleaning his cars, his garage and maintaining an immaculate yard (weed free!). He also enjoyed gardening and growing roses.

Verdis was a family man that loved his wife and daughters dearly and always putting his family first. He was a proud grandpa and great grandpa. He was a faithful Servant to the Lord and will be dearly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters: Jodie Marlow (Bob Norem) and Marci (Tony) Lowe; grandchildren: Tyler Tatman (Jennifer Carter), Jason (Sara) Marlow, Amanda (Nate) Lawson, Jesse (Beth) Tatman, Lindsey Baxter (Adam Quail), Kelcie (Trey) Ginger; great grandchildren: Ali Marlow, Andy Marlow, Carson Mattson, Jacob West, Cassandra West, Ella Tatman, Kale Lawson, Mila Young, Tucker Tatman, Eyler Ginger, Charlotte Tatman, Archer Quail and Elodie Ginger; step-great grandchildren: Jacob Lawson and Derek Lawson; sister, Shirley Tesch; brother, Richard (Barb) Koehlmoos; sister, Pat Castor ; brother, Robert (Betty) Koehlmoos; sisters-in-law: Mary (Bill) Evans and Delores Koehlmoos; many other relatives and friends.
