Verneta Adilene Haaland, the daughter of Louis and Emma Rasmussen Beck was born September 7, 1921 in Dickens, IA. She attended various country schools before graduating and receiving her teaching license from Buena Vista University. She taught country school in Rossie for 6 years.
She married Russell Haaland on May 16, 1944 in South Sioux City, NE. Verneta enjoyed baking, all kinds of card games, playing board games with her children and grandchildren and watching Hawkeye basketball games. She was a member of Women's Fellowship and the Lincoln Willing Workers, but was happiest when surrounded by her family.
Verneta passed away on December 20, 2009 at the age of 88, at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell, a sister, Phyllis Guthrie, four nephews and a brother in-law.
Left to cherish her memory are her four children: Russell, Jr. (Leoma) Haaland of Rossie, IA, Geoff (Connie) Haaland of Lyles, TN, Marneta (Richard) Miller of Ames, IA, Jackie Haaland (Allen Dandy) of Rossie, IA, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, who are the honorary pallbearers, other family members: Ed Guthrie, Helen Haaland, Verne and Dorothy Haaland, and many nieces and nephews and other friends and relatives.

Services will be held Monday December 28, at Warner Chapel in Spencer at 11:00 A.M.
