Vesta Rouse passed away on August 16, 2012, following a lengthy stay at St. Luke's Nursing Home in Spencer, Iowa.
Vesta Doris ( Remillard) Meleky Rouse, the daughter of Jesse and Marie (Meyer) Remillard, was born February 8, 1922, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Vesta received her education in the Sioux Rapids school system, graduating in 1939.
Following high school, Vesta, along with her sister Vera, took a train to the state of Washington, where they worked in a defense factory to support the war effort.
Vesta was married to Joseph Meleky of Farrell, Pennsylvania, on July 22, 1943. Joe, a World War II glider pilot, was killed in action on D-Day, June 6, 1944. On January 26, 1947, Vesta was united in marriage to Alvin Chester Rouse in Spencer. On Valentine's Day, 1959, they were thrilled to welcome 2-year old Linda into their family.
Vesta worked many years at Jefferson Elementary School before retiring in 1992 at the age of 70. Vesta enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a great cook and hosted many family dinners at her home on Sundays and holidays. For many years, Vesta and Alvin also enjoyed their weekly card club with several couples.
Vesta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, American Legion Glen Pederson Post # 1, VFW Post and Auxillary #3159 and Eastern Star Evening Shade Chapter #116.
Vesta is survived by her daughter Linda Thelen and son-in-law Ed Thelen of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandchildren Nathan Thelen of Iowa City and Alena Thelen of Spirit Lake; sisters Wilma Hansen of Sioux Rapids and Phyllis Braesch of Marathon; special friend Lawrence Smith of Spencer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Eldon and Daisy Rouse, Kathryn Rouse, Ellen and Clelland Darr, Maynard and Ruth Rouse and Cleo Bohn; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Marie; her husbands Joe and Alvin; sisters Vera and Velma; brothers Wayne, Calvin and Richard; sisters-in-law Ellie Remillard, Velma Remillard and Donna Remillard. Also, preceeding her were brothers-in-law Floyd Nelson, Bob Hansen and Kenny Braesch.
The family requests that memorials be given to St. Luke's Nursing Home or Grace United Methodist Church of Spencer.
SERVICES
Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer.
