Viola Sassman-Goodwin

September 7, 1921 — March 9, 2007

Viola Sassman Goodwin, the daughter of Carl and Ermal Moses Reusch, was born September 7, 1921 on a farm near Paulina, Iowa. Viola married Robert George Sassman on June 27, 1940. They had three children. In 1955, Robert's life was taken in an explosion of a fuel line. On May 6, 1960, Viola married Glen Charles Goodwin. With this union Viola became wife, mother and grandmother gaining 6 children. Viola was an active member of First Baptist Church, teaching Sunday school and participating in many church activities. She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, and involved with Easter Seals. She went back to school in 1971, and furthered her education at Iowa Lakes Community College to help handicapped individuals after she, herself, became physically handicapped from a severe stroke. She attended Lee Holt Center for adult day services. She purchased bells, which later became the Riverview Bell Choir of Riverview Terrace Assisted Living where she became a resident in August of 2005. In January 2006, Viola's health again worsened and she was moved to St. Luke Lutheran Nursing Home. Viola passed away on Friday, March 9, 2007, at St. Luke Lutheran Home at the age of 85.
