Violet Evangeline Schmidt

Violet Evangeline Schmidt, the daughter of Arthur and Anna (Brenne) Anderson, was born March 19, 1922 in Lakefield, MN. Her childhood years were spent in Lakefield, where she received her education, graduating from Lakefield High School in 1941. After her schooling, she worked at various clothing stores in Lakefield and Worthington, Minnesota.

Violet married Allen Schmidt on February 19, 1955 in Lakefield, MN. After their marriage, they moved to the family acreage in rural Ocheyedan, Iowa, where they raised their three children. She was well known for her many African violet plants and raspberry bushes. Violet was also an accomplished seamstress and made the best pies. In 2009, Violet moved to Worthington, MN and later moved to Spencer, Iowa in 2012. She had been a resident at St. Luke Lutheran Home since 2015.

She passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the age of 96. Violet was preceded in death by her husband, Allen in 2005; infant sons: Gregory & James; parents; sisters: Adelaide Erickson, Evelyn Hattendorf, Agnes Schmidt, Ruby Toussaint and infant sister, Anabelle; her brothers-in-law, Earl Erickson, Louis Hattendorf, Arnold Schmidt, Kenneth Toussaint, Charles Rueter, Eugene Schmidt and Earnest Baish and sisters-in-law, Esther Schmidt and Rosetta Frese.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jill (Roger) Ver Mulm of Sioux Center, IA, Janene (Steve) Winters of Ocheyedan, IA and David (Dayna) Schmidt of Spencer, IA; 8 grandchildren: Rachel (Quintin) van Huyssteen, Ashlee (Cody) Brothersen, Stephanie (Jeremy) Appel, Ryan (Shelby) Ver Mulm, Kenny (Michaela) Winters, Justin Winters, Abby Schmidt & Emily Schmidt; four great grandchildren; one brother, Vernon (Iva) Anderson of Rochester, MN; one sister, Ardyce Rueter of Spirit Lake, IA; two sisters-in-law: Janet (Ginger) Hundertmark of Mesa, AZ and Cheri Schmidt of Ocheyedan, IA; a brother-in-law, Ralph Frese of Illinois; other relatives and friends.

SERVICES

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Okabena, MN.
