Vivian Edna Smith

June 17, 1930 — October 20, 2014

Vivian Edna Smith, the daughter of Eric and Esther (Anderson) Carlson, was born on June 17, 1930 in Marathon, IA. She spent her early years there where she attended school and graduated from Marathon High School. Following high school she married Vern Wright. They lived in Sioux Rapids where she was a homemaker. To this union two sons were born: Steve and Tim. Vivian married Verle Sawyer in Spencer. The couple bought an acreage near Dickens. Verle was killed in a car accident not long into their marriage. Vivian married Fred Smith and they resided in Dickens. Viv's love of horses began at the age of 8, when she got her first horse. Throughout the years, she was involved in many activities; 4-H, the Clay County Fair and the Iowa AQHA. Viv enjoyed all aspects, breeding, training and showing. In 2011 Viv was inducted into the Iowa AQHA Hall of Fame. She enjoyed the traveling and loved all the friends she made along the way. Her spirit rides on. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 husbands and two brothers: Don and Ernest. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Steve Wright and his wife, Kathy of Spencer, IA and Tim Wright and his special friend, Tania of Des Moines, IA; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one brother, Eldon Carlson of Spirit Lake, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be 10:30A.M., Friday, October 24, 2014, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.

Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 - 7:00P.M. Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Northlawn Memorial Park Spencer, Iowa Following the graveside service, there will be a lunch served at the Grace Methodist Church.
