Vivian Lavone Jespersen

April 22, 1925 — August 14, 2015

Vivian LaVone Jespersen, the daughter of Jesse and Myrtle (Roberts) Morrow, was born April 22, 1925, on a farm southwest of Royal. She was baptized in the Methodist Church. After her early years on the farm and in country school, she moved with her parents to Spencer, started 7th grade there, made life-long friends, and graduated from Spencer High School. After High School, she attended business school in Des Moines, worked in the social welfare office in Spencer, worked a year in Pasadena, California and then returned to Spencer to work in the Farm Bureau extension service office. There she met a local young farmer, Stanley Jespersen. They were married February 22, 1948, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal, which LaVone joined in 1948. They began farming and raising a family on a farm south of Royal, then moved in 1958 to the farm they bought northeast of Royal. LaVone was an active member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church (Bethlehem Lutheran Church Women, Altar Guild, Circle, Memorial Committee, and taught Sunday school), American Legion Auxiliary, Farm Bureau, YMCA and other community organizations. She was a 4-H and Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed all the work and activities of farm life and that of her children and grandchildren as they progressed through and out of school. She looked after other family members as they grew older, and maintained her life-long friendships. She was known for her kindness and caring for others. LaVone passed away on August 14, 2015, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Dennis; and grandson, Martin. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stanley Jespersen of Spencer; her children: David Jespersen and daughter-in-law, Leila McCoy, De Ann (Jespersen) Tjossem and son-in-law, Vernon Tjossem; grandchildren: Alexei McCoy-Jespersen, Jessica (Tjossem) and her husband, Peter Kemp, Brian Tjossem, Cody Tjossem and many relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
