Vyonnie Euphane Fintzel

December 2, 1918 — February 10, 2016

Vyonnie Euphane Fintzel was born on December 2, 1918, on a farm in Oldham, South Dakota to Anna Marie Throop and Ross Miller Throop. Her father was a prominent business man in this small town north of Sioux Falls. The population at the time was 364 people. She graduated from High School in 1935 from Oldham High School. Soon she married the love of her life, Frank Fintzel. They married on December 9, 1935 in Canton, SD. They moved to Sioux Falls where Frank began his career in Sales and Management. Vyonnie was always the faithful supporter of his career. They soon had a daughter, Marilyn Ann Fintzel. They enjoyed tremendous friends and family during their years in Sioux Falls. Eventually in 1963 they moved to Spencer, Iowa. They truly became part of the community. They were members of the original St. Stephens Episcopal Church on East 5th Street. Frank managed the Big 'D' and then the Hy-Vee Supermarkets. They both involved in the community, with the church and other community events. Travel was a very big hobby during their retirement. Their daughter married Richard (Dick) Olson, a career military man. He had destinations around the world that they managed to find time to visit. They had vacations in Hawaii, Germany, Maryland, Virginia and eventually Florida. They even became 'snow birds' for 10 years, visiting when it got cold in Spencer for the winter in sunny Palm Bay, Florida. Vyonnie devoted her life to her friends and her faith. Frank died in 1997. She continued to be an active member of the St. Albans Episcopal Church of Spirit Lake. She and her husband were volunteers for life and friends with everyone. Her passion was cooking, baking and reading. She could read books for days at a time. She loved all authors and adventures. In 2013, at 94 she began to reside at the Northshire-Longhouse Residence. She really enjoyed the friends that she made and the wonderful nurses and her roommate, Vi Roberts. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Olson of Palm Bay, FL; granddaughter, Sandy Olson of Clayton, NC; grandson, David Olson and his wife, Traci of Springboro, OH; three great-grandchildren: Ashley Olson of Greenfield, OH, Magen Olson of Richmond, IN and Devyn Olson of Springboro, OH and one great-great grandchild, Brayden of Greenfield, IN.
