Wanda Jennie Stoermer

November 11, 1915 — February 27, 2012

Wanda Jennie Stoermer the daugter of Lawrence and Katherine 'Kate' (Whalen) Prentice, was born in Nemaha, Iowa. She grew up in the Gillett Grove area where she attended Logan Country School and then graduated from the Gillett Grove Consolidated High School. Wanda married Leo Stoermer on July 18, 1934, in Elk Point, SD. To this union three children were born: Earnest, Monica and Edward. The couple lived in the Gillett Grove area, where they owned and operated a service station. In the early 1950's they engaged in farming until 1976, retiring and moving to Laurens. While living on the farm, Wanda raised her family and helped on the farm. She also liked to play cards and make crafts. Wanda and Leo did some traveling with their motor home. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Laurens. Wanda had resided at Riverview Terrace for the past eight years. Wanda passed away peacefully on Monday, February 27, 2012, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo in 1988; her granddaughter, Sheryl; four sisters: Zelda Hurley, Lois VanBrisen , Eunice Langfitt and Helen Virgil and one brother, John Prentice. Left to cherish her memory are her two sons: Earnest and his wife, Janice of Spencer, IA and Edward and his wife, Connie of New Burn, NC; one daughter, Monica Hudson of Sergeant Bluff, IA; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one great -great grandchild; one sister, Maxine Burdette of Spencer, IA; one brother, Lawrence Prentice and his wife, Lena of Nelson MN; other relatives and may friends.

There are no services planned at this time. Wanda's wishes were to be cremated.
