Wanda (Taylor) Eninger was born January 27, 1926, in Osceola County near Sibley, Iowa, to Dallas B. and Alice M. Winkel Taylor. As a child she contracted polio which caused her to start grade school at the age of seven. She attended her first year of high school in Sibley, then her family bought a farm near Melvin, Iowa, where she graduated in 1945. She attended UNI in Cedar Falls for one year for her teaching credentials. She taught in a one-room county school near Sibley for a year. She did more study at Buena Vista College before teaching second grade in Royal, Iowa. There she met and married Robert A. Eninger in 1948. She raised three children and worked at the veterinarian office until they sold the practice in 1965, and moved to their farm near Rossie, Iowa. Through the years she enjoyed substitute teaching, volunteering with the Spencer Hospital Auxiliary, delivering ‘Meals on Wheels’, handwork (especially crocheting), watching her Twins baseball, and reading. Bob and Wanda attended and were active in the Royal Methodist Church, and later the Grace United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa. They both enjoyed playing ‘500’ and fishing, making many trips to Canada and northern Minnesota. Except for three years in Bend, Oregon, they lived their entire married life in the Spencer area.
