Wayne Allen Ginger, the son of David and Kate Ginger, was born August 27, 1928, in Gaza, O'Brien County, Iowa. His early childhood years were spent in Sutherland, and in 1938 his family moved to Everly, Iowa, where he continued his education, graduating from Brooks School near Peterson, Iowa.
Wayne married June Craddock on October 21, 1950, at the Naval Training Center in Chicago, Illinois. He entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1953. After his discharge from the military, they returned to Everly where he continued farming the remainder of his life.
Wayne was active with the Clay County Fair, working security for 51 years and assisting with the grounds crew. Wayne was known for his appreciation of John Deere tractors, of which he was their best spokesman, Hereford cattle, Chevy trucks, and Yamaha motorcycles. But more than anything, Wayne loved his family. He enjoyed watching his grandkids perform and was so proud of everything his kids and grandkids accomplished. Wayne also enjoyed spending winters in Arizona with June, where they made many friends.
Surrounded by his loved ones, Wayne passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, June of rural Everly; three sons: David Ginger and wife, Vicki of Minnesota, Jim Ginger and wife, Lynette of South Dakota, and Jeff Ginger of Everly, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
