Wayne C. Workman, the son of Cornelius and Evelyn Wickham Workman, was born August 3, 1937 in Muskegon, MI. At the age of 11, Wayne was made ward of the State. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Marines and while serving his country he earned his G.E.D. Following his honorable discharge, Wayne attended the University of Michigan and earned a degree in Business. He then earned a Masters Degree at the University of Phoenix. While in College, Wayne was married and to this union, two children were born.
Wayne married Barbara Workman on December 4, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Wayne lived in the communities of San Diego, CA, Dallas, TX, New Jersey, Ames, IA, Chicago, IL, Louisville, KY and for the past 10 years in Spencer, Iowa. Wayne worked as a Sales Executive with several companies that took him throughout the United States, Japan, Korea, Germany and Canada, he owned a Hardee's franchise, Franchise Broker, Real Estate Broker and recently owned Re/Max in Spencer with wife Barbara. He was a Chamber of Commerce member, former President of Rotary and current member, Order of the Knoll at Iowa State University, former Director on Iowa Great Lakes Board of Realtors, V.F.W., Iowa Association of Realtors, Spencer Ambassador and a member of the Y's Men.
Wayne accomplished many goals, dreams and achievements in his life, some which included: being the youngest Sergeant in his Marine Corp Division at the age of 19; finding his brother in 1974; learning to fly and buying his first of 3 planes in 1981, which he had flown from coast to coast; purchasing an ocean-going boat in 1983 in Newport Beach, CA and traveling to the Bahamas and Mexico with Barbara, he especially loved cruises. Wayne's motto was "work hard and play hard".
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Spencer; one son, R.C. Workman and wife, Kathy; 4 wonderful grandchildren: Ryan of Cedar Rapids, Kara of Ames, Michael of Des Moines and Kyle at home in Boone; his brother, Gordon Hillock of Kiawah Island, NC; sister, Marlene; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00pm on Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Warner Chapel in Spencer.
