January 9, 1936 — April 10, 2019

Spencer

Wayne Everett Carlson, the son of Clifton and Mildred (Shirbroun) Carlson, was born January 9, 1936 in Coon Rapids, IA.  His childhood years were spent in Webb, IA, where he received his education, graduating from Webb High School in 1953. After high school, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Marine Corp from January of 1954 until his honorable discharge in January of 1956.  During his time in the Marines he made a personal decision to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior that would change the course of his life. Following his service to his country, he continued his education at Bethel College and the University of Minnesota.  He returned to Webb to begin his career in farming.

Wayne married Charlotte Wiedemer on September 5, 1964 in Darien, Wisconsin.  After their marriage, they continued to farm in the Webb area.  Following their retirement in 2002, they moved to Spencer, IA.  He was an active member of the First Baptist Church and was involved in leadership and music, and on several occasions filled pulpits as a lay-preacher.  He served on the Board of Child Evangelism and Fellowship (CEF). Wayne was also a past active member of the Farm Bureau, the Clay County Cattlemen’s organizations and he sold Archer Oil.  During his retirement, he enjoyed “Hobby” farming.

Wayne loved God, family, friends, and farming.  His favorite pastimes were singing and shopping for machinery.  He enjoyed teasing and joking with people.

He passed away at St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at the age of 83.  Wayne was preceded in death by his parents: Clifton and Mildred Carlson; niece, Sheryl Stoermer and his brothers-in-law: David Essick and Ernie Stoermer.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Charlotte of Spencer; four daughters: Joyce Carlson of Colorado Springs, CO, Martha (David) St. Clair of Colorado Springs, CO, Ruth (Scott) Schneider of Omaha, NE and Carolyn (Curtis) Batschelet of Spencer, Iowa;  4 grandchildren: Jorie St. Clair, Anders St. Clair, Grant Schneider and Kyle Schneider; one brother, Ronald (Betty) Carlson; and sisters: Janice Stoermer of Spencer, Mary Jane (Darrel) Johnson of San Diego, CA, Shirley Essick of San Diego, CA and Donna (Mark) Bruce of San Diego, CA; other relatives and many friends.
