Wayne Harold O'Clair, the son of Frank and Daisy (Oliver) O'Clair, was born November 22, 1922 in Dickens, IA. His childhood years were spent in Royal, where he received his education, graduating from Royal High School. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Air Force during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1945.
After his military service, Wayne returned to Royal, where he married Phyllis Hoffert on January 6, 1946 in Royal. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near Royal, where they farmed for their entire married life of 57 years. A very special time in their life, was when they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary at Grand Island, NE, which was the last time the whole family was able to be together. Wayne loved to take his family camping, enjoyed swimming, fishing, designing model airplanes, reading western books and always was busy doing something. He could fix anything and was an excellent welder who made his own equipment. Wayne also was an umpire for baseball and softball for many area schools in Northwest Iowa and also umpired for the Iowa State Tournament. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Royal. He was also a member of the American Legion of Royal, Iowa. Wayne will be deeply missed by his family.
Wayne passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joel O'Clair on March 1, 2001; his wife, Phyllis on April 17, 2003; one brother and one sister.
Left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Jill and her husband, Rick Davis of Palmer, NE; two sons and their wives: Robby and Kim O'Clair of Livermore, CO and Tim and Kris O'Clair of Littleton, CO; one daughter-in-law, Diane O'Clair of Choctowa, OK; 8 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M.,Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Royal.
Military services will be conducted by American Legion Goodwin Post #248 of Royal, Iowa following the graveside services.
