Wayne Roy Bishop

April 3, 1946 — November 13, 2018

Everly

Wayne Roy Bishop was born in Ware, IA on April 3, 1946 to William and Ella (Triggs) Bishop. He was the youngest of eleven children. He could often be heard saying, “They saved the best for last!” Wayne grew up in the Mallard, Laurens, and Webb, IA areas. He was married to Cheryl Gerdes and later divorced. To this union five children were born: Julie Lynn, Kim Ella, Kay Irene, Joy Ann, and Edwin Wayne. He was an employee of Blue Star Food, New Idea Corp., Langenwolder Construction, Spencer Pack, Hartley Pack, Pothast Farms and Clay County Road Dept., retiring in 2009 after 35 years of service.

Wayne married Mary Beth Hansen on September 24, 1983 at the First Reformed Church in rural Everly, IA. He could fix almost anything. Wayne enjoyed remodeling and especially the finagling of plans to make things work. He was a very skilled carpenter, knowing how to do the tasks associated with the entire construction process, from concrete work to matching two houses to become one. One of Wayne’s best traits was that he was always willing to help anyone that needed it. He was a very caring person and was loved for this special trait.

Wayne passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN, at the age of 72. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Margaret Hansen; one granddaughter, Casey Jo Bishop; one niece, Barbara Nelson; one nephew, Kelly Matzdorff; 3 brothers, Donald, William, and Harris Bishop; and 4 sisters, Bertha Nelson, Betty Alt, Margaret Brockey, and Rhina Henderson, one great-nephew Daniel Umbrell.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Mary Beth of Everly, IA; 5 children, Julie (David) Wingert of Ankeny, IA, Kim (Stan) Cook of Tillamook, OR, Kay (Tim) Hurd of Tillamook, OR, Joy (Brad) Cole of Rochester, MN, and Edwin Bishop of Stewartville, MN; 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Ethan, Timothy, Zachary, Amanda, Joshua, Caleb, Mariah, Austin, Morgan, Walker, and RyleeAnn; 6 great-grandchildren with one on the way, Quintin, Evie, Maleigha, Aaron, Harlynn, and Liam; 2 brothers, Gerald (Mary Ann) Bishop of Spencer, IA, and Ronald (Barbara) Bishop of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Joyce (Larry) Matzdorff of Williams, AZ; two brothers-in-law, Buzz, Brockey of Council Bluffs and David Hansen of Lake Park, IA; other relatives; and many friends.
