Wayne Everett Salton, the son of Clair and Grace Hersom Salton, was born August 23, 1932 on the family farm, Dickens, Iowa. He received his early education and graduated from the Gillett Grove High School in 1950. He entered the United States Army in 1953 and was stationed in Germany, while there he drove the mail truck until his honorable discharge in 1955.
Wayne married Doris Elkin on November 17, 1957, at the First Christian Church in Spencer. Following their marriage, they farmed 2 � miles north of Gillett Grove. In 1963, they moved to a farm 3 miles north of Gillett Grove where Wayne continued to milk cows and farmed. In 1999, Wayne and Doris were nominated as Clay Cattlemen of the year. Wayne was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star, First Christian Church, where he served on the Church Board and as an Elder. Church was a very important part of Wayne's life, his family was also very important to Wayne as he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Wayne passed away on October 25, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN at the age of 76. He is preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers: Harold, Don, Gene and Bob; one brother-in-law, George Alger.
He is survived by his wife, Doris of Dickens; three daughters: Bev Dudziak and her husband, Norm of Dickens, Denise Salton of Spencer and Nancy Salton of Dickens; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Angela & Casey Lawson and their children, Kaitlynn and George, Michael Wayne & Shayna Tjebben, Kayla Salton and her son Parker Wayne, Felicia Essick and Tyler Essick; sister, Dorothy Alger of Dickens; 2 sisters-in-law: Barbara Salton of Spencer and June Salton of Alta; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the First Christian Church in Spencer.
