Wayne Vern Paulsen, the son of Harry and Millie (Stricker) Paulsen, was born on May 7, 1932, in Hartley, IA. He grew up on a farm in Hartley and received his early education attending country school thru the 8th grade, and then graduating from Hartley High School in 1952. Following graduation, he was drafted on December 4, 1952, into the U.S. Army, during the Korean Conflict. He served two years and was discharged on December 4, 1954. Wayne returned to farming until 1960.
On August 20, 1961, Wayne married Janet Edmunds in Hartley, IA. Following their marriage, they lived in Spencer for a short time, then moved to Fostoria in 1963. Wayne worked as a self-employed carpenter and a handyman for many years.
Wayne was an active member of the church. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and D.A.V. He was involved in the camping club, enjoyed snowmobiling in his younger years, gardening and woodworking.
He passed away on February 15, 2020, at St. Luke Lutheran home in Spencer, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Emery and Eldon and his sisters: Ferne Peterson and Ruth Gilman.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Janet of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Kimberly Paulsen (David Howe) of Reno, NV; his granddaughter, Stephanie Giddings of Reno, NV; his brother, Curtis of Spencer, IA; his sister-in-law, Janeen Paulsen of Acworth, GA; other relatives and many friends.
