Wendell John Chris Nothwehr, the son of Arthur John and Luella Bertha (Felten) Nothwehr, was born February 18, 1941 in Cherokee, Iowa. He was baptized on March 16, 1941 at St. John's Church near Peterson. His childhood years were spent in Brooke Township in Cherokee County north of Peterson, Iowa. He attended Brooke Consolidated School, where he graduated in 1958. Following his schooling, he worked for one year and then attended Iowa State, where he studied farm operations for one quarter.
Wendell married Carlene Struve on June 13, 1965 at the Methodist Church in Peterson, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed with his father and eventually bought their own farm in 1964. Throughout his life, he was an active member of St. John's Church, where he taught youth fellowship. He was also a trustee of Brooke Township, was an active member of the Farm Bureau, where he did legislative work, served on the Farm Services Board and won a conservation award for his terrace farming. Wendell was a steward of the land and enjoyed traveling, dancing and watersports activities. Most of all, he enjoyed attending all of his grandchildren's events, attending family holiday activities, grandpa and grandma trips and following the Midlife Crisis Group.
Wendell passed away at his lake home in Arnolds Park, Iowa on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at the age of 71. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Carlene of Arnolds Park and rural Peterson; his children: Carla Richardson and her husband, Mark of W. Des Moines, IA, Rodney and his wife, Teresa Nothwehr of Storm Lake, IA, Robin Singer and her husband, Rick of LeMars, IA and Paula Rolfes and her husband, Marty of Redfield, IA; 9 grandchildren; two sisters: Wanda and her husband, Bob Donahoo of Peterson, IA and Faye Capps and her husband, Dennis of San Marcos, CA; one brother, Lowell Nothwehr of Aurelia, IA; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 25, 2012 at St. John's Church in Peterson.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4:00 P.M., Saturday with the family present at the Warner Funeral Home in Spencer.
A second visitation will be held from 5 to 8:00 P.M., Sunday with the family present at the Warner Funeral Home in Peterson.
