Wilhelmine "Willie" Taylor, age 83, of Spencer passed away on Friday, December 27, 2013 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Willie was born in Galva, Iowa, on April 20, 1930 to Rasmus P. and Anne S. Rasmussen of Galva, Iowa. The family then moved to rural Everly where Willie attended grade school through high school. She was baptized and confirmed at the age of 15 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer, Iowa. She graduated from Everly High School in May of 1948. Following high school, Willie was employed at various restaurants in the Spencer area.
Willie worked as the Dietary Supervisor at Spencer Municipal Hospital for 26 years and retired at the age of 62. Willie was also a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Spencer.
Sewing for others, crafts, cards, puzzles, photography, and watching sporting events were a few of her many favorite hobbies. She was also known for keeping up with the latest technology and enjoying time with her cat named Missy. In addition, Willie was an active and dedicated volunteer in multiple organizations throughout the Spencer community. She was a loyal friend and neighbor to many. Above all, Willie was a devoted mother who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time and keeping in touch with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren through texts, emails and phone calls.
Willie was preceded in death by her parents Rasmus P. and Anne S. Rasmussen as well as her brother Rass Rasmussen.
She is survived by her three children, Kent (Ann) Taylor of Columbia, Missouri; Kirk Taylor of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Kathi (Craig) Middendorff of Sioux Rapids, Iowa. She is survived by her grandchildren Kate (Dave) Burris, Steven Taylor, Grant (Courtney) Middendorff, and Nelson Middendorff and by great-grandchildren William and Elliette Burris. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and family friends Kevin Knopf and Brady Rebhuhn. She will be deeply missed by her many friends and family.
