William T. (Bill) Hargrave, the son of Tom and Laura (Sorenson) Hargrave, was born January 24, 1930 in Spencer, Iowa. Bill grew up on the Hargrave farm south of Dickens, IA. His early education was received at Sunnyside School District #6 in Sioux Township and Dickens School. He attended Jr. High & High School at Gillett Grove, graduating in 1948 from Gillett Grove High School. Bill was baptized on June 28, 1931 and confirmed July 4, 1947 at the Dickens Methodist Church.
Bill married Arlene Flack at the Dickens Methodist Church on September 17, 1950. Following their marriage, Bill & Arlene lived and farmed south of Dickens on the family farm, where they raised their four children. Bill enjoyed farming, tending to his vegetable & flower gardens, reading, hunting, fishing and raising his horses. Bill was also a rural mail carrier, until his retirement in 1996 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Dickens Methodist Church, Iowa Great Lakes Saddle Club, Iowa and Minnesota Chuckwagon Association, and rural mail carriers association.
Bill passed away on December 27, 2012 at his home south of Dickens at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Fred (Bud); a sister, Karleen Ferguson and a grandson, Andrew Hargrave.
He is survived by his wife, of 62 years, Arlene of Dickens; two sons: David Hargrave and his wife, Diane of Dickens and Tom and his wife, Lisa Hargrave of Spencer; two daughters: Nita and her husband, Martin Richards of Omaha, NE and Liz and her husband, Curt Worsfold of Blair, NE; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 31, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Dickens, IA.
