William Charles Maurer, the son of Joseph Homer and Zelda (Anderson) Maurer, was born July 6, 1932 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer and Greenville, where he received his education. After his schooling, he entered the military in January of 1953, where he served with the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge in December of 1954.
Bill married Peggy Herrig on June 4, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Rectory in Spencer. Following their marriage, he farmed near Greenville. In 1974, they moved to a farm south of Spencer, where they continued to farm until his retirement in 1993. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, where he was involved with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Glen Pedersen Post #1 of Spencer and the Antique Automobile Club of America. Bill enjoyed working on antique cars and pickups, especially his 1941 Ford Pickup.
Bill passed away at his home in Spencer on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the age of 86. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Peggy in 2009 and all of his siblings.
Left to cherish his memory are his two sons: Bradley and his wife, Kay Maurer of Spencer and David and his wife, Janel Maurer of Spencer; four grandchildren: Amy (Travis) Cooke, Mike (Mollie) Maurer, Chris Maurer and Ross Maurer; 5 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
