William Eugene Klatt, the son of Emil and Etta Steffen Klatt, was born May 31, 1929, in Spencer, Iowa. Bill graduated from the Peterson Consolidated School in 1949. In October of 1951, he was drafted into the armed services and served during the Korean Conflict. After an Honorable Discharge, he enrolled at Buena Visa College and received his B.A. degree with an endorsement to teach in elementary and secondary schools. Bill then continued his education and received a Master's degree from Missouri State University at Kirksville, MO.
Bill married Mary Essick at the Webb Baptist Church on August 3, 1957. To this union three sons were born. Bill taught school in Albert City, Clear Lake and West Bend. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Webb, serving as a deacon and trustee.
In June of 1974, he moved his family to the farm where he grew up. He loved living on the farm. He fed cattle, lots of pigs and sheep, as well as raised grain.
His big enjoyment and interest was helping his sons with 4H projects, attending their athletic events and other school activities.
He loved having his 11 grandchildren come to the farm. They always looked forward to tractor rides, riding the moped and dirt bike, and riding in the big red pickup truck.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Mary; son Brian and wife Dawn, children Tyler, Melissa, Sarah and Katelyn from Centennial, CO.; son Kevin and his wife Sandy, children Derek, Carter, Courtney, Caleb and Colten from Sioux Falls; son Joel and his wife Vicki, children Madison and Gage from Sioux Falls; other relatives and a host of friends.
