William Francis Geary, was born on December 22, 1930, on the family farm between Fonda and Varina, Iowa. He entered Into Eternal Life December 19, 2018 at Spencer Hospital, Spencer, Iowa.
Known by friends and family as Bill, he was the middle son of parents Okley Edmund Geary and Catherine “Katie” (Schnetter).
A devote Catholic, Bill enjoyed farm life and loved woodworking. Suffering from polio as a child, and losing his father at the age of 16, he continued to work until his retirement in 1971. In addition to farm work in the Varina and Fonda areas, he also lived in Primghar, Pocahontas and briefly in Boulder, Colorado. During his life, Bill worked as a cobbler, and worked as a handyman at the Ford Garage in Spencer, and finally, as a custodian at Sacred Heart School. Numerous pieces of his handiwork have been sold through Camp Sunnyside for many years.
He enjoyed playing pool with his friends at the Senior Center, and going to coffee with the group at the Hy-Vee. Bill could be frequently seen riding his scooter throughout Spencer and to church. His favorite yearly events were the Fair and the Geary Family reunions.
Bill lived with his mother until her passing in 1984. He sold his home in Spencer in 2012, and moved into Cobble Creek until he became ill in December, and was taken to Spencer Hospital, where he passed away on December 19th, just days before what would have been his 88th birthday.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; older brother, Anthony, and “Tony’s” wife Velma (Stewart) Geary of Loveland, CO; and Carol (Parker) Geary, of Pinedale WY, wife of younger brother Conley.
Survivors include his brother, Conley Geary, of Pinedale, WY, nieces Diana (Michael) Wiggs of Filer, ID and Sally Cothrel (Patrick) of Garden Grove, CA; Terry (Richard) Freeman of Greeley, CO, and Dixie Geary of Ft. Collins, CO, along with several great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins.
The family wishes to thank Father Tim Hogan, and the staff and volunteers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the staff and friends at Cobble Creek, the nurses, doctors and staff at Spencer Hospital, and the staff of Warner Funeral Home.
