William "Jerome" Killmar, the son of William and Emilia (Gloetzel) Killmar, was born January 18, 1918 in Spencer, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Spencer, where he received his education, graduating from Spencer High School in 1935. Following his schooling, he entered the military and served with the U.S. Marines during WWII from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946 after reaching the rank of Corporal.
Jerome married Mary Rubis on February 6, 1945 in Spencer, Iowa. Jerome was a lifetime resident of Spencer and worked at Cook Cleaners from 1946 until his retirement. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. Jerome enjoyed dancing and was also a member of Glen Pedersen Post #1 - American Legion and the VFW Clay County Post #3159 both of Spencer.
Jerome passed away at the Spencer Hospital on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at the age of 92. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry Killmar.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary of Spencer; one son, Robert Killmar of Indianola, IA; one daughter, Jean Killmar of Spencer, IA; one sister, Marcella Vonderhaar of Humboldt, IA; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
A Military Flag Presentation will be held following the services at the church.
