William Joseph Pope, the son of Arthur and Alberta (Bates) Pope, was born March 8, 1956 in Washington, DC. His childhood years were spent in Virginia, where he received his education and graduated from high school in 1974. He entered the military and served with the U.S. Navy for 8 years.
While serving his country, he met and married Nancy Quist on May 28, 1977 in Woodbine, Georgia. To this union two children were born: Melissa and Steven. In 1989, William and Nancy were divorced. He later lived in Washington State until 1999, when he moved to Florida. In May of 2008, he moved back to Spencer, Iowa.
Bill passed away at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD from injuries received in a fall near his home on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the age of 58. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his two children: Melissa Pope-Thongvanh (Danny) of Spencer, Iowa and Steven Pope (Sabrina Bryant) Mallott, WA; two grandchildren: Austin Pope-Thongvanh and Sebastian Pope; his ex-wife, Nancy Smith of Spencer; other relatives and friends.
SERVICES
Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer.
